5 Tips on How to Clean your New Office at Home

Home office cleaning

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the world in many ways. One of those ways is without a doubt how and where we work. Working from home for many has become the norm. There is no denying that this has resulted in many opportunities but also challenges for those who now have a new office at home. One of those challenges is, how do I clean my new office at home? We believe that when your environment is clean you feel happy, motivated, healthy and it increases your productivity. If you don’t know where to start cleaning or what to focus on, this blog is for you.

Here are Skitterblink’s 5 tips on how to clean your new office at home:

  1. Start with your desk

Use a damp microfiber cloth and dust the desk from top to bottom. Make sure to remove all accessories from the desk before dusting to ensure proper cleaning. While you are at it, make a point of decluttering your desk. We also suggest you use a disinfecting spray after dusting.

  1. Empty the garbage bin

The garbage bin should be emptied often for odour and hygienic reasons. Make sure to line your bin with a plastic bag or bin liner to ease cleaning and disposal. It can also be beneficial to spray the bin with a disinfectant spray. If you find yourself eating at your desk, try not to dispose of your leftovers in your office garbage bin.

  1. Vacuum the floor and furniture

Dust can accumulate on furniture and carpets quite quickly which is why it is important to stay on top of it. Make sure to move the furniture and vacuum underneath as well.

  1. Sanitize all accessories

Office accessories such as keyboards, phones, computer mouse, screens, printer, etc. are usually touched multiple times during the day. These accessories need to be wiped with a damp microfiber cloth and sanitized using either a disinfectant wipe or a cloth with disinfectant spray on it, as often as possible.

  1. Clean light switches and knobs

We often touch light switches, doorknobs, cabinet or drawer handles with dirty hands without giving it a second thought. Use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe these surfaces and if someone in your home is sick you can also disinfect these surfaces.
