Sanitize, De-Clutter & Organising

Spring time is upon us. Blossom by blossom the spring begins and with it the desire to keep a tidy home, increase productivity and ultimately start afresh. The purpose of this article is to help you do just that in terms of sanitizing, de-cluttering and organising your home.

Let’s start with defining each term:

  • Sanitizing is defined as cleaning something to make it free of bacteria or disease-causing elements. For example: Wiping a counter with a bleach solution.
  • De-Cluttering is defined as the process or activity of getting rid of things you do not need or want from your home.
  • Organising is defined as arranging systematically or placing in order. A combination of these three processes will result in a clean, clutter free and organised living environment for you and your family.

Here are a few of Skitterblinks’ tips on sanitizing, de-cluttering and organising your home:

Tip #1
Disposable disinfectant wipes are most effective when it comes to killing organisms on surface areas.Try the 12-12-12 challenge. Locate 12 items to donate, 12 items to throw away and 12 items to return to their proper place in your home.Arrange items according to how frequently they’re used. Things you use daily should be easiest to get to.

Tip #2

Remember to disinfect the following surfaces:

–    Phone

–    Remote Control

–    Bathroom

–    Computers

–    Tables

–    Sheets, Blankets &             Towels

De-cluttering can be difficult if you don’t see the clutter in your own home. We recommend you change your perspective by taking photos of your house. This will help you view your home in a new light and therefore identify the clutter.Use the file folding technique. Folding towels, rags, sheets etc. upright allows you to see everything in a single glance.

Tip #3
Make a DIY disinfectant solution by mixing 1 tablespoon of bleach with 2 litres of water.De-clutter your closet by starting to sort clothes by type. It is easier to decide on tossing or keeping a pair of jeans if you are looking at an entire collection of jeans.Double up on hangers for more closet space. Use a can tab to stack hangers on each other.

Tip #5
Clean cutting boards used for raw meat by washing immediately with dishwashing soap and hot water and follow with washing with the bleach mixture.

Get rid of anything not used in the last 12 months. Ask yourself:

–   Do I use this?

–   How long has it been             since I’ve used it?

–   Will, I use it again?

–   Is it worth the space it        takes up in my house?

Create a laundry sorting station. Place a basket for each family member under your laundry folding table. This will help you to organise the clothes and be effective for the putting away of clothes.
