The ABCs Of Cleaning A Mattress
“Sleep is the golden chain that ties health and our bodies together.” – Thomas Dekker
Did you know the average person spends a third of their life asleep which means we spend up to a third of our lives in bed. This is a shocking fact when we consider the small amount of time we spend on cleaning our beds every year.
Sure, we all wash our bedding once a week or at least we ought to but is that enough? The truth is we are not the only ones enjoying the comfort of our beds. Mattresses have a tendency to accumulate germs, bacteria, dust mites not to mention dirt, dust and dead skin. The problems are not only that these bed guests are unwelcome but that they can be a health risk. These risks include infections, diseases, allergies, skin irritations, asthma and bronchitis.
The easy steps to cleaning a mattress:
A. Vacuum the Surface
First you should strip the mattress of all sheets and bedding. Next, you should vacuum the mattress surface using the upholstery attachment of the vacuum cleaner. Make sure to vacuum every seam and crevice since these are your most popular collection sites.
B. Spot Treat Stains
Spray the mattress with an antibacterial spray to kill the bacteria on the surface. We do not recommend using bleach since it is too harsh on the fabric covering the mattress. If you decide to use a liquid cleaner, we recommend you dilute the solution and use a barely damp rag to apply the cleaner. If the mattress is saturated with moisture you run the risk of mould.
C. Deodorize the Mattress
Baking soda or Biogen from Skitterblink can be used to remove odours from mattresses. Sprinkle the baking soda over the entire surface of the mattress. If you can place the mattress in the sun you will have the best results. The baking soda can be left on the mattress up to 24 hours. After which you should vacuum the mattress again to remove the baking soda.
D. RAYCOP Allergen Vacuum
The RAYCOP allergen vacuum with its UV-C sterilization lamp is specially designed for the purpose of capturing potential allergens and pollutants making it the best vacuum for a mattress cleaning and sterilization job. It efficiently sanitizes and sterilizes a mattress with the help of an UV sterilization lamp, pulsating pads, purification filter and suction optimizer.
