How to keep your home clean and safe from COVID-19

There is a lot of attention on COVID-19 cleaning protocols that should be implemented in stores, businesses, offices and public spaces but not a lot of attention on how to keep your home clean and safe with regards to COVID-19. This article’s purpose is to give you Skitterblinks’ tips on how you can go about doing just that.

Proper Cleaning and Disinfecting

Starting off with the obvious but absolutely necessary is keep your home clean and organized. You should have a well-established cleaning procedure that works for you and your home. The reason for this is that cleaning practices and hygienic practices often go hand in hand. Simple example: if your home is a mess and you are searching for a mask in the chaos you might just opt to use a used (potentially exposed) mask for your outing. The safety of you and your family is the most important thing at this time which is why properly cleaning your home is essential. You can always contact us for our domestic cleaning services.

Disinfecting high-touch areas is now more important than ever which is why you need a disinfecting plan. If you don’t know how to disinfect your home or where to start, read our article: Disinfecting your home or workplace.

Preparation Practices

Keeping your home clean and safe from COVID-19 starts long before you leave the door. We recommend these following preparation practices because they will make your life easier and safer. Preparation once again starts with organization. You need bins for clean masks, that are easily accessible, best if the bin is close to the door you use to exit your home. The bin should be restocked often, after washing your reusable masks or after buying your disposable masks. We also recommend having a bin for used masks, that is once again easily accessible upon returning home. Have hand sanitizer next to the bins so you can easily disinfect your hands and don’t need to search for it.

Leaving the House

If you have your bins and hand sanitizer set up, leaving the house should be less complicated. You should start the process by washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. After washing your hands, we recommend gathering everything you will need for your outing. Since the bins will be set up close to the door you will use to exit your house, your mask will be the last thing you grab. Grab a mask from the clean bin and place it on your face. If you don’t like to apply the face mask immediately upon leaving your home you can bring it with you in a Ziploc bag for later when you need it. At this point you are ready to head out.

Returning to the House

Upon returning to your house, we recommend you start the process as soon as possible. Once you enter the door you should use the hand sanitizer to disinfect your hands first. After which you can remove your mask. If you are using a reusable mask you can throw it in the used bin, and if you are using a disposable mask you can either throw it in the used bin to be discarded or in a trash can. Next, you should wash your hands with soap and water. We recommend you wash your reusable masks as often as possible and return them to the clean bin for your convenience.

Now you should be set to enter your home knowing your practices is helping keep you and your family safe.
